As most of you know, I have been limping around on a sprained ankle since November.  After enough badgering from friends, I went to an orthopedic surgeon shortly before the BBQ and found out I have a broken ankle and will need surgery in the near future.  You may be thinking, “so what” or “big deal”, but I had volunteered to organize and host the steak fry.  At the OBSC meeting last Sunday, we discussed getting a new host for the party.  Unfortunately, no one was able to take over, so we voted to cancel the May 14 event this year.  The group of people I call the “usual suspects” were unavailable and no one else was able to volunteer.

We regret cancelling the last event of the OBSC party season, but it became obvious it was unavoidable.  We hope everyone has a great Summer and we look forward to the start of the OBSC party season in October.

NEWS FLASH !!

Our wonderful hosts for the Winterfest, Jerry & Karen Caballero, are unable to put on their usual fantastic Winterfest.  Karen is in the hospital with another bout of congestive heart failure.  We all wish her a speedy recovery!!    BUT, the show will go on!!

The usual suspects, Pat & Sue Sledge and Lew Felton will do their best to put a great meal together.  The menu may not be exactly the same, but will be similar.  We will still fire up the famous “Cholla Downs” for some after dinner fun. We hope to see another festive turnout on Saturday.

Our 2020 Mardi Gras will be celebrated on Saturday, February 15.  This year’s theme is: Back to the Future 2020.  Meet at Clubhouse parking lot for pictures and judging @ 3:30PM.  Decorate your ride in the theme of the event or just ride along for the fun of it!  The parade will begin at 4:00PM and proceed through the streets of Cholla Bay.  The Club will supply beads to throw to the crowds lining the parade route.  Please bring candy to throw as well.  The local kids and their moms love the beads and candy!  Awards will be given for the best overall,  best conforming to theme, most quirky and the judges’ favorite.  The winners will be announced after dinner.  We encourage everyone to participate in the parade, even if they do not have an entry. At approximately 6:00PM,  happy hour will follow the parade at the club. Soon after happy hour, the usual suspects will serve a wonderful Mardi Gras dinner.  The menu will include shrimp, chicken and sausage gumbo, red beans & rice, creole cornbread and salad.  Dessert will be served following dinner.  As with any OBSC event, beer and wine will flow at the bar.  After dinner we will have a post Super Bowl pool, so bring your ones and fives!  Where can you get a great meal, 2 drinks and a lot of fun??   Only at the OBSC for a mere $10 for members and $15 for their guests.  Unlimited drink wrist bands are also available for $5.

It’s that time of the year when the weather is cooling off and lots of people are coming back down to enjoy our slice of paradise. What better way to enjoy it than to decorate your cars, golf carts, side by sides, sand rails, boats, trailers, quads, horses, tow trucks etc. with Christmas lights / decorations? With lights flickering and tinsel waving drive through Cholla Bay & pass out candy / goodies to all the onlookers that sit impatiently waiting for us to drive by! This is a fun way to enjoy the Christmas spirit in a unique and creative way! In the past we have had 30 or so vehicles that caravan through Cholla – and this year we would love to see MORE people join in on the fun and meet some of our neighbors! Please help us achieve this by telling all your friends and neighbors. The OBSC is generous enough to sponsor a dinner at the Clubhouse from 5:00 – 6:30pm on December 7th with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Children’s Christmas Party. As you recall the Children’s Christmas Party will be the following weekend (December 14th) at the Clubhouse. You do not need to attend the dinner to be in the parade, nor do you need to participate in the parade to enjoy a delicious dinner!

On Saturday, March 16, Harry & Sandy Luker are hosting our annual St. Patrick’s Day party with a traditional Irish dinner of corned beef, cabbage and all of the typical trimmings.
